Yoga for Body and Mind
Everyone knows that exercising is great for burning
calories and toning the body but most don't realize that it is also
good for freeing the mind. Some exercise programs which stress strength,
coordination, and balance can also deliver relaxing thoughts and mental
focus. This total workout of both body and mind is otherwise known
as yoga.
Originating in the Orient hundreds of years ago, yoga
eventually came to the West and now has practitioners throughout the
globe. At first the regimen was only taught by Eastern masters but
it is now instructed by people of all races and nationalities who
have become experts in yoga's unique system of mental and physical
discipline. There are indeed a good number of exercise routines that
provide benefits for the body but few can rival yoga where mental
conditioning is concerned.
Yoga is best performed while sporting comfortable
exercise attire. Locate a private, but leisurely, area where you are
unlikely to be disturbed. Some adherents prefer some soothing background
music or even chants to help calm their nerves.
Sit on a comfortable mat or soft but sturdy pad. Adhere
to the yoga exercises spelled out in any number of physical and mental
routines. Be careful not to exert yourself too much in the begining
as any fitness regimen should begin slowly with intensity and effort
building over time as the body adjusts.
Yoga is one of those disciplines that can actually
be enjoyed by people of all ages, from retirees to children. Its discipline
can be acquired through books, magazines, videos, or classes where
certified instructors teach its discipline and is probably the best
method by which to study and practice yoga.
If you like and after consulting with your doctor,
go ahead on your own and begin assimilating the varied physical and
mental activities necessary to master the philosophy that is yoga.
Of course it is still probably more fun if you practice it with a
friend or family member, at least every once in awhile.
If you are looking for a sensibly paced workout with
a component that addresses mental health at the same time, yoga may
be just what you want. But if you're still not sure, why not visit
a local class or an online site to learn more?
Those who practice this healthful way of life remain
dedicated for decades, a testimony of its attraction and effectiveness
for those who remain committed over a long period of time by incorporating
yoga into a daily or weekly schedule.
